Here’s a timeline of the planned server shutdownģ0th of May, 2022: Virtual currency (Cash) packages removed from Heavy Metal Machines and will no longer be available for purchase. This applies to all platforms, including Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. This means the game and all its related features will no longer be available, including all game modes, and the in-game Store. HMM’s dedicated servers will be shutting down on the 30th of August, 2022. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the ending of Heavy Metal Machine’s life cycle. The team’s announcement from May 3rd follows: Though unconfirmed, this change seems to imply that Hoplon was preparing in late 2021 to shut down the game soon. They extended the current season “indefinitely”, returned all in-game items from previous seasons to the Store, reduced the price of real-money packages by 30% between January and February of 2022, and increased ‘Fame’ experience payouts by 500% to aid in unlocking extra content.
Previous to this, Hoplon outlined their plans for the future of the game in a post from December of 2021. It appears the game was then removed from digital stores as early as the morning of May 4th. The most recent release from the San Francisco studio came in the form of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite in 2019, however, it struggled to find an audience.The team at Hoplon announced on May 3rd, 2022 that Heavy Metal Machines would be shut down on all platforms on August 30th, 2022. Niantic recently confirmed that Pokémon GO Fest 2021 would go ahead with a two-day digital event for the second year in a row this July. Transformers: Heavy Metal will soft launch in New Zealand sometime in June, before rolling out globally later this year. We want to live up to the high expectations of Transformers fans around the world and bring them a game, unlike anything they've played before."
"Battling and interacting with giant robots in the real world is an amazing experience. "Transformers is the perfect franchise for AR," said Hanke. Namely, a conversation with Microsoft was supposedly in discussions at one point, though the latter seemed to have shown no interest in pursuing a deal (according to the Bloomberg report). It was further stated that Niantic has about a dozen games in active development and it has been speaking with potential buyers about an acquisition. Both titles are currently in soft launch.
Development is being undertaken by Seattle-based studio Very Very Spaceship, which will utilise Niantic's Lightship platform.ĭuring an interview with Bloomberg discussing the collaboration, Niantic CEO John Hanke confirmed that the previously announced Pikmin AR and Catan: World Explorers games will release later this year. Transformers: Heavy Metal will allow players to battle the robots in an AR street environment, similar to Pokemon GO's raid battle system. Niantic has partnered with Hasbro on Transformers: Heavy Metal, a new augmented reality mobile game now in the works.
